Optional: 0.3, 0.5 and 1 micron absolute.

Cartridge sizes: Type WM-536 (5-1/2"diameter X 36" long), WM-572 (5-1/2" X 72") and WM-336 (3-1/2" X 36").

Core and Caps: Steel (Standard). Optional: 304 or 316 stainless steel.

A gas coalescing filter is used for removal of aerosol mist from gas. Aerosol mist particles become trapped in the fiberglass media because they do not have enough mass to pass through the cartridge media and are trapped by impingement. As these small liquid particles come in contact with each other they coalesce into larger droplets, eventually becoming large enough to pass through the cartridge(s). The enlarged particles will then fall to the bottom by gravity due to a drop in velocity. This velocity drop is caused by the gas flowing from the inside of each cartridge into the much greater area of the filter vessel, allowing the flow to slow down enough that the droplets will fall to the bottom of the vessel where the drain is located.

Coalescing elements which have the flow path going from the inside-out should not be used if solids are present to any degree. They have less surface area when compared to a cartridge which flows outside-in. If coalescing of aerosol mist is desired but solids are present, we suggest you consider a filter separator which will remove both mist and solids. In a filter separator, gas enters the vessel and passes through the cartridges with the flow going through the cartridge outside-in. The gas then flows into a second chamber, passing through a separator element which will remove any droplets which have not already fallen out by gravity.

Whether you select a gas coalescer or a filter separator depends on the application. The filter separator generally has a higher initial cost because it has both filter cartridges and a separator element, thus the need for two chambers. Coalescing filters use gravity to assist in separation, all occurring in a single chamber. Also, coalescing cartridges for a filter separator are much lower in cost compared to the more complex cartridge used in coalescing filters.

Liquid and solid particles from .3 micron size and larger will be removed from a gas. Other micron ratings available include .5, 1, 5, 10, etc.

All of our vessels are manufactured in our own A.S.M.E. code facility in Longview, Texas. We manufacture filter vessels in carbon steel, stainless steel, monel, Inconel and other metals.

Type 65 Dust Filter

The difference between a gas dust filter and a gas coalescing filter depends on the style of cartridges used and the direction of flow through the cartridges. In a dust filter application, a cartridge with the most surface area is desired for longest life between changes. Dry gas passes through the filter cartridges with the flow being from the outside toward the inside. Cartridges with this flow path offer the most surface area possible for maximum dirt-holding capability. Depth media such as fiberglass is used because it offers excellent solids- holding capacity resulting in longer cartridge life and clean gas.

If liquids are anticipated to any degree, even mist in aerosol form, a dust filter may also have the unwanted effect of coalescing these small particles into larger liquid droplets. The possibility of liquids forming in the line should be taken into consideration when attempting to remove solids, as any filter may cause coalescing of aerosol mist.
